Douglas County (2006 pop. est. 44,061) is located in northwest Wisconsin at the head of the Great Lakes. It borders the south shore of Lake Superior. Superior is Douglas County's largest city and an international shipping port.  It is one half of the Twin Ports, joining with nearby Duluth, Minn., for a combined population of more than 112,000 people.

Major industries in Douglas County include wood products, transportation, manufacturing and tourism. The region offers numerous economic development incentives, outstanding K-12 and higher education, progressive health care facilities and a high quality of life. Interstate 35 and four-lane Highway 53 connects Douglas County with major metropolitan areas in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
